Finding Christ as My Guide

I have heard it said that the Christian life is a scenic journey, full of turns, bumps, hills, and valleys. I have certainly found this to be true.

In 1976, when I was three years old, my parents began meeting with the local churches. From this time through junior high I attended meetings with my parents. But the summer before entering high school, I became distracted by the world and disinterested in the church and stopped attending the meetings. I cut myself off from every Christian that I knew.

For several years I was very happy to live without going to Christian meetings. I prayed every night before bed, and the Lord was very sweet to me. However, during my second year in college, I could no longer be so content. I began to question the meaning of life. Although I was struck by the irony of a Christian-raised kid questioning life, I could not deny the emptiness I felt within me. My life seemed to be so vain. I was born, I live, I die--so what? What is the point? Every time I asked this question I knew what the answer was. I had learned years ago in children's meetings that the meaning of my human life was to contain and express God. I just didn't understand what that meant.

Finally, I had to get the answer. I returned to the meetings of the Christians in the local church. Hungry and eager for reality, I began to read and fellowship with them about the books of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee. As I read, I began to understand what the meaning of my life was. The more books I devoured, the more my spirit answered with a resounding yes--this is reality. I have been meeting with the local church for six years now and I am so thankful that the Lord has led me here. Through His great mercy, He has unveiled His heart to me, and He has saved me from my vain and meaningless existence. Now, every day, whether good or bad, I know that I am gaining more of His life, and falling in love with Him. Through the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, I have a guide on how to go on in my Christian life and enjoy Christ. This guide is like a road map to this scenic life I am now living. I can only praise and thank the Lord for His working in my life.
